Experiential Learning Program

Launched in 2008, the Experiential Learning Program trains differently abled youth in computer skills and offers them an opportunity to experience a work-like environment. The program caters to under privileged students above 18 years of age, who are differently abled. There are three main stages in this program. These stages are training, paid-internship, and placement.

Over a period of 3 months, the students are trained at the Foundation Centre at Bandra East. The training includes teaching Microsoft Office, basic data entry skills, but is customized as per the requirements of Corporate Partners who may wish to hire these students. Students are referred to us from various Partner NGOs.
For a period of six months, the students are given a supervised internship at our Centre. Corporate Partners outsource work to the Foundation. This work is carried out by these students. Students are paid a stipend by the Corporate Partner for the work done, thus giving him/her a real-time sense of working and earning. After testing their speed and accuracy, high achieving students are sent ahead to the next stage.
Once a student has completed 3 months of Training and a minimum of 6 months of Internship, he/she can be placed at any organization. The Foundation helps these students to be placed. We undertake the initial hand holding and periodic follow ups to ensure that both the hiring partner and the hiree are satisfied.

Apart from economic independence, the students are exposed to extra-curricular activities like counseling, soft skills training, confidence building, mock interviews, games and various competitions. Events like Disability Day, Teacher's day, Children's day and Parents Day are also held to help them holistically. Involving parents in these activities, helps in creating awareness about their child’s special abilities. To diversify the Program and explore new avenues, some of the beneficiaries with learning disabilities have been trained to transcribe audio files which undergo a thorough quality check.
Every year, we train around 75 differently abled youth in data entry skills. 70% of these beneficiaries are placed with a Corporate Partner. Some of them find jobs on their own or pursue their higher education.

Computer Program

The Computer Program aims to bridge the digital divide and empower under privileged youth with basic and advanced computer skills. Running at centres in Bandra East, Chembur West and New Panvel, youth from surrounding areas are taught Computer basics, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and are exposed to the Internet. In the advanced courses, the program offers Tally and Desktop Publishing, Retail Marketing courses to college going youth. Extracurricular activities include sessions on Personality Development, Resume Making, Spoken English, and Career Counseling. The 4 month long course provides each beneficiary with maximum practical exposure, by giving him/her a chance to practice the skill taught through worksheets, typing exercises etc. on a daily basis. The Program concludes with a test for the beneficiary to demonstrate his/her mastery.

Every year, we train around 500 youth in Computer skills. At the end of the training period the beneficiaries are able to reach a speed of 25 wpm and accuracy of 90% along with basic computer skills. In some cases, they are provided placement with a corporate partner.

English Immersion

English continues to be a secondary language for a large section of the Indian population. While many youth today are able to read and write in English, it is the spoken component of the language that they struggle with. To improve spoken English, the English Immersion Program provides intensive one month training to college going and working youth. The Program is designed to develop the confidence to speak in English. Exercises focus on using commonly spoken sentences and training the beneficiaries to effectively communicate their thoughts. The 'Immersion' component arises from the nature of the Program - the youth are immersed in the English language for an entire month. Basic sessions on grooming and work place etiquette are also a part of this Program

Every year, we train around 200 youth in spoken English, who then go on to secure higher paying jobs due to their enhanced English.
